As you recover from (hopefully not too much) jet lag, we’re starting your Sri Lankan adventure strong with a full day of exploring and travelling.

Today is a celebration of the ancient world. After breakfast, we’ll adventure to Sigiriya Rock Fortress for an easy, yet awe-inspiring climb. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a unique must-see, built in the 5th century between 477 and 498 AD.
Then in the afternoon, we’ll visit Polonnaruwa, the second ancient capital of Sri Lanka, to marvel at the monumental ruins throughout the city. What was once a thriving commercial and religious centre (over 800 years ago, that is), we’ll gaze upon the Royal Palace, sacred gathering spaces, and towering Buddhas.
Remember, modest clothing is recommended in spaces of cultural significance which we can’t wait to share with you.

To round off our time in Sigiriya, we’ll first head to the stunning Dambulla Cave Temple for a peaceful morning in the presence of towering statues and magnificent rock formations.
With surprising bursts of colour nestled into the breathtaking caves, you’ll leave this spiritual place feeling inspired and awe-struck.
Then, we’ll make our way to our next stop in Kandy, visiting the Spice Garden in Matale on the way. Sri Lanka is known for its incredible spices and aromatics, of which you’ll get to experience up close and personal.
In the evening, you may wish to join in on a cultural performance followed by dinner. This experience is optional and you may instead prefer to rest at the hotel.

We’ll start our first full day in Kandy with a visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic where a tooth of Gautama Buddha is present. This renowned place of worship is a stunning display of Buddhist tradition and is, in fact, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Adorned with gold, silver and ivory, the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is one of the most beautiful temples in all of Sri Lanka and is sure to leave an impact on all its visitors.
From there, we’ll take in the scenery on a walk around Kandy Lake which was built in 1807 and features traditional architecture, temples and showstopping views along the perimeter.
Later, you’ll participate in a local cooking experience using traditional spices and techniques to create a delicious Sri Lankan dish. Watch out! Food in Sri Lanka can be extra spicy compared to what you’re used to. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Today, we’ll be travelling from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya with its rolling hills and spectacular gardens.
On the way, we’ll visit one of the many local tea factories for a tasting of the tea leaves, another pride and joy of Sri Lankan culture. Be sure to come thirsty and ready to have your fair share of delicious, aromatic teas. It’s here that you’ll have the best opportunity to purchase some of these high-quality teas for yourself.
We’ll also enjoy a bit of natural peace by visiting the rushing Ramboda Waterfall, which is 109m high and offers a moment to breathe and reset before continuing on our journey.
Finally, we’ll stop for a full tour of one of the local tea plantations in the area to learn more about how these iconic tea leaves are grown and cared for.

You’ll enjoy an early breakfast today before we embark on the famous train ride from Nany Oya to Ella.
The 4-hour rail journey is complete with incredible sightseeing and a journey across the iconic 9 Arches Bridge. Also known as the Bridge in the Sky, this incredible feat of architecture is a bucket list item for any visitor to Sri Lanka. Spanning 300-feet, this colonial-style railway construction is straight out of a film and a thrill for all who experience it.
Once we arrive in Ella, there will be time to relax and enjoy before we continue our journey to Yala where we’ll retire for the evening at the hotel.

It’s another adventure day as we depart after an early breakfast this morning for a wildlife safari at Yala National Park. Yala National Park is one of the largest in Sri Lanka, giving guests the best possible opportunity to spot a rare leopard in the wild.
These incredible creatures are difficult to spot but an absolute highlight when you do. Majestic and powerful, these leopards are a must-see in the Sri Lankan wild.
Optionally, there will also be a Guided Game Drive in the evening to experience even more animal-watching and sightseeing.

From there, we’ll explore a local turtle farm and learn about the incredible coastal wildlife. It’s here where we’ll really start to appreciate the vast differences between each city and town across Sri Lanka. We’ll have seen so much in just over a week and there’s still so much more to explore.
